When is Bhai Dooj?
The sweet and special festival of
Bhai Dooj is celebrated two days after the glittering festival of
Diwali. The day of Bhai Dooj or Bhatri Diteya falls on the fifth or
final day of the five-day-long Diwali Festival while the main day of
Diwali or Lakshmi Puja is celebrated on the third day of Diwali
Festival.
Bhai Dooj comes in the Hindu month of Kartik or the month of October -
November according to Gregorian calendar. As the word Dooj
suggests Bhai Dooj is celebrated on the second day after the new moon
day. And Bhai in Hindi means brother. On the day of Bhai
Dooj sisters apply sacred red tilak on brothers forehead, perform
arti of him and pray for his long and prosperous life. Brother blesses
her sister and promises to guard her against all hardships in life.
Relationship between brothers and sisters is further strengthened with
